Content revised 21 October 2026.

Organic Search and social channels can introduce different audiences and intentions. Choose the mix around the business task rather than assuming every website needs identical activity.

Understand arrival context

A search visitor may be asking a specific question, while a social visitor may discover an offer while browsing. Both can be relevant or unsuitable. Keep paid social separate from unpaid distribution in reporting.

Match the destination

Give the visitor the information promised by the query or post. A useful guide, product page and enquiry page serve different needs. Check the mobile journey instead of comparing channel totals alone.

Review cost and outcomes

Organic activity still requires research and production effort, and paid promotion adds spend. Use consistent definitions for qualified actions. One channel’s success does not guarantee a ranking or conversion benefit in another.

Official guidance: GA4 channel definitions.
