International SEO Starts With a Serviceable Market

Content revised 21 October 2026.

International SEO should follow the markets your business can support. Language, fulfilment and customer response matter before a translated page can deliver a useful experience.

Validate the offer

Check whether products, payments, delivery and support are available to the intended audience. Research customer terminology and requirements with people who understand that market. A translation widget alone does not create a complete local service.

Build useful versions

Plan clear URLs for genuine language or regional versions. Translate important details, navigation and the enquiry path. Keep equivalents connected so a visitor can change language without losing the page they were reading.

Apply technical annotations carefully

Use hreflang for equivalent localised pages according to Google’s syntax and return-link requirements. It is not a label for unrelated pages mentioning different cities. Keep canonical decisions consistent with the content.

Maintain each market

Assign translation approval, changing product details and enquiry handling. Review search and business outcomes by appropriate region or language. Expansion should not leave visitors with an offer the business cannot fulfil.
