Content revised 21 October 2026.
An agency and an in-house team can both work well when the responsibilities fit the business. Compare capability, capacity and access before assuming one model is always better.
Map the work
List research, content approval, development, analytics and reporting. A team may diagnose a problem without having permission to implement the repair. Decide who owns each handover and how urgent work is prioritised.
Compare full costs
Include management, tools, recruitment or supplier fees and the time required from internal reviewers. A monthly fee alone does not establish equivalent scope or expertise. Ask who will perform the day-to-day work.
Keep business knowledge involved
Internal teams know the offer and operational limits. External specialists may provide additional experience or capacity. A combined model needs a clear approval path so technical advice and real business facts meet.
Plan ownership and exit
Keep control of accounts, source material and change records. Agree documentation and handover before work begins. Neither employment model guarantees rankings or removes the need to inspect results.
