Content revised 21 October 2026.

cPanel account tasks and WHM server administration have different scopes. Understand the target and permissions before running a script that may affect several websites.

Identify the operation

State whether the task concerns one account or the server. Review the current API or documented interface for that version. A script copied from an old tutorial may not match the installed environment or privileges.

Protect access

Use supported authentication and the narrowest practical permissions. Store tokens securely, track their purpose and revoke unused access. Do not place server credentials in publicly reachable source or logs.

Test and record

Use an authorised test environment, a backup plan and known expected output. Inspect failures before retrying a mutation. Automation can save repeated work, but it also repeats a mistake if the target or assumptions are wrong.

Official guidance: cPanel WHM API documentation.
