Content revised 21 October 2026.
A drop in search visibility is different from a change in a third-party score. Identify the affected pages and queries before blaming PageRank, hosting or a redesign.
Define what fell
Record whether the concern is clicks, impressions, average position, enquiries or a tool’s metric. Use consistent dates and filters. Google’s PageRank is a link-analysis system, while a site’s search positions reflect multiple systems and query context.
Build a change timeline
Compare the drop with releases, URL migrations, outages, indexing changes and changes in demand. A redesign does not inevitably cause a loss. Check actual redirects, internal links, canonicals and content before deciding that the design itself is responsible.
Inspect links cautiously
Unexpected backlinks do not automatically explain a decline. Review Search Console manual actions and relevant evidence. Do not rush into a broad disavow submission because a tool labels unfamiliar domains as toxic.
Choose a scoped repair
Correct confirmed faults, preserve the original source and monitor suitable comparisons. Keep technical availability separate from hosting price. A cheaper plan can work well, and an expensive plan can still be misconfigured.
