SEM often refers to paid search marketing: advertising that reaches people while they search. A useful campaign connects the query, the offer and the landing page.
Agree what SEM means in your proposal
Some people use search engine marketing as an umbrella term that includes SEO. Others mean paid search alone. Ask which services and costs are included. That simple question prevents an advertising-management quote from being mistaken for a full organic SEO programme.
Start with a specific offer
For a repair business, an ad for a particular service should lead to information about that service, the area covered and how to enquire. Sending every visitor to a generic homepage can make the next step harder. The ad and page should also explain important limitations instead of hiding them until after a form is submitted.
Keep the budget and measurement clear
- Separate advertising spend, management and landing-page work.
- Agree what counts as a useful conversion or enquiry.
- Review actual search terms and irrelevant traffic where the platform provides that information.
- Check that the form, phone link and reporting work on mobile.
Review business outcomes
Clicks show that people reached the page; they don't automatically show sales. Compare relevant enquiries, costs and your team’s follow-up. Paid campaigns and SEO can support the same business, but buying search ads doesn't buy organic rankings. Choose the mix according to the job each channel can do.
