Types of DNS Records:

  • NS Records:

NS records stand for Name Server which describes the name of the server for the domain which allows the DNS lookup within the several zones. Every primary and secondary name server must be reported through this record.

  • MX Record:

MX Records known as Mail Exchange Records allow the mail to be sent to the right mail servers which are located in the domain. MX records include the fully-qualified domain names except for the IP addresses.

  • “A” Record:

Address Records are used to map a hostname to an IP address. Generally, Address Records are those IP addresses that if a computer consists of multiple IP addresses, adapter cards, or even both, it must possess multiple address records.

  • CNAME Record:

Canonical Name Records are used to set an alias for the hostname.

  • TXT Record:

Text Records allows the insertion of arbitrary text into a DNS record. These records are added to the SPF records into a domain.

  • TTL Record:

Time-to-Live Records sets the period of data. This is ideal when a recursive DNS server queries information of the domain name.

  • SOA Record:

Start of Authority Records which declares the most authoritative host for the zone. Every zone file should include an SOA record. This SOA Record has generated automatically when the user is added to a zone.

  • PTR Record:

Pointer Records creates a pointer. This pointer maps an IP address to the hostname to do reverse lookups.
