Content Delivery Network is considered as the transparent backbone of the Internet and it is in charge of the content delivery. Content Delivery Networks are designed to solve the issue of Latency. Latency is the frustrating delay that occurs from the time you request to load a web page to the time its content actually appears on screen.

This delay occurs because of several factors while many of them are specific for a particular web page. Is such cases, this duration of delay is affected by the physical distance between you and that website’s hosting server. Thus, a Content Delivery Network or CDN is used to virtually shorten that physical distance in order to improve the website rendering speed and performance.

 

How CDN Works

The Content Delivery Network stores a cached version of its content in multiple geographical locations with the aim of minimizing the distance between the visitors and your website’s server. The geographical locations are also known as Point of Presence or PoPs. Each PoP contains a number of caching servers responsible for content delivery to visitors within its proximity.
